If you based the modern bridesmaid experience on pop culture references, you would think it would be a real drag. Ugly and expensive dress, a la “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”…
…hanging around with dramatic girls who can’t agree on anything a la “Bridesmaids”,
and competition to have the wedding you’re in be more awesome than the next wedding… because let’s face it, there’s always another wedding in the works. (Who could forget “Bride Wars”??)
Well the truth is, I love it. A wedding is a big party and the bridesmaids/groomsmen are VIP’s. I’ve never been forced to wear a hideous dress, and I’ve been lucky enough not to engage in any epic bridesmaid battles. Sure, there’s a little bit of drama thrown in to make things interesting. But I’ve enjoyed every single wedding of which I’ve been a part. As a hopeless romantic, being in the wedding gives me a front row seat to the main event, and it doesn’t get much better than that.
This weekend, I get to do it once again. I can’t wait to get primped, pampered, and wear an ADORABLE bridesmaid dress. (Seriously, I’m really excited about this one. There will be pictures.) Most of all I get to spend some time with one of my best friends, and see her on the happiest day of her life. I know a wedding is about love. But through planning my own wedding, I’m also learning that a wedding is about celebrating other relationships. Without friends and family, you wouldn’t be you! And that’s cause for a celebration, too!
Congrats, Wendy and Joe! Your big day is almost here!!!
