OK I don’t sell it, I buy it. Today is Sunday and that means it’s one of the three days out of the week during which you can get the most delectable soup at the Jersey Shore.
If you’ve ever been to Sea Isle City, NJ, Busch’s Seafood is a must-visit. It’s known for a wide array of fresh seafood dishes, but it’s famous because of its she crab soup!
The soup is only served on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays, and when they run out, you’re out of luck! (And believe me – they do run out!) We actually had a bit of a scare last year, when Busch’s owners threatened to close the famous restaurant. They had a change of heart though, and we’re so glad they did!
Mr. Dish and I always have to stop by to have the she crab.
Its creaminess and subtle sweetness is unmatched. Go ahead and have crab soup anywhere else. It won’t be as good. Busch’s website shares the history of the restaurant and the soup:
“She crab soup… was created by cook Vincent Barberi, who worked for (George) Phillips’ father. He died about nine years ago, Phillips says, and the soup-making job was passed on to (cook David) Christopherson, who died two years ago. Al Schettig is now the keeper of the recipe and the maker of the soup.”
According to the website, 40 gallons of the soup are sold each night it’s served! Mr. Dish said this week that we should try to figure out how to make it ourselves. I say this is a bad idea because A.) I don’t think we can do it, and B.) it would take the fun out of getting it at the shore!
So if you find yourself in Sea Isle Sunday through Tuesday and you need a bite to eat, look no further. You can even take home a quart – we always do!
