Last week I got a package I wasn’t expecting. I didn’t immediately recognize the sender, and since the box was from some kind of health food company I thought, “Did I win some giveaway and forget about it?” (Hey, it’s happened before. It’s kinda weird when a random case of Chobani lands on your doorstep.)
So, I prayed it wasn’t anthrax and opened it. It was filled with goodies from the Oddyssey Half Marathon!
Once I saw all the loot, I knew exactly who had sent it. If you didn’t hear about our little “espisode” at the Oddyssey Half Marathon in Philadelphia a few weeks ago, you can read the whole story here. For those who want the short version: my two friends and I came across a dehydrated runner who needed medical attention during the race, and the three of us stayed with her until help arrived. I later learned that runner is just fine.
And so, in this box ‘o fun were three t-shirts (two small, one large
, three glasses, and three stickers.
This stuff, for the record, was totally unnecessary. As I said in my previous entry, we couldn’t NOT stop and help a fellow runner. But knowing that someone from the Oddyssey Half Marathon took the time to do something special to say “thanks” made my day. Little stuff matters. It’s the positive, personal experiences that keep people coming back to run races year after year.
So thank you, Oddyssey Fairy! Hope to see you in 2013!
