First of all, I logged in today and wondered why my stats were so high. Turns out today’s spike in readership is thanks to my co-worker and fellow blogger, Andy Palumbo, who was nice enough to mention me in his blog today. Thanks, APal! I’ve always been impressed with his ability to blog about news and give some personal impressions while remaining unbiased. Check it out if you’re into NEPA news.
OK let’s get down to business…
We are officially less than three weeks out from this year’s Broad Street Run in Philadelphia. 30,000 are expected to run in this 10 mile race that sold out in just FIVE HOURS back in February. (Don’t even get me started on what a mess that was. I’m in, and that’s all that I care about.)
I’ve run this race once before, in 2008… it was the spring before I ran my first marathon. Before my first half marathon, even. MOH and I ran it in 1:32. My goal in 2012, 6 full marathons later: to beat 1:32. Currently I’m injury free and I’ve been getting in about 20-25 miles a week. Thanks to my new-found running buddies who are training for a half marathon the week before Broad Street, I’ve had plenty of motivation to get the miles in, and I’ve felt really great out on the road.
Now that the weather is definitely spring-like (dare I say… summer-like?), I had to bust out BOTH of these hot-weather running favorites last week:
Oooooh you know you’re getting heavy into the mileage when you bust out the anti-chafing glide!
Speaking of heavy mileage, Mr. Dish is slowly racking up the miles as the race draws near. He’s running Broad Street for the first time, and it’ll be his longest run EVER! I’m really excited for him. Also bounding down Broad Street this year: Mr. Dish’s sister (my future SIL! – and a two-time Broad Street finisher), MOH and her hubby, and Mama Dish! Even though we won’t all be running together (“Run your own race,” my inner coach says), it’ll still be fun to know so many loved ones are on the course.
So for all of you who are bound for Broad Street, take care of those legs! I’m hoping mine will be ready for a fast, flat, FUN race on May 6!
