That kind of sounds like a children’s book, doesn’t it? On Sunday we had a big day ahead of us, so we needed a big breakfast. So we sauntered on down to The Ruby Slipper Cafe.
Definitely not in Kansas anymore...
This quaint corner cafe is well known for its breakfast, and it’s where I had some of the best pancakes I’ve ever had! Straight of the “specials” board – Bread Pudding Pancakes.
Drooling on the keyboard right now.
Bread pudding batter and raisins in the pancakes and some kind of creamy sweet sauce on top that blows syrup right out of the water. I don’t usually order pancakes when I go out to eat (I’m an omelete kind of girl) but I’m sure glad I did here! I needed to carb-up for my big adventure…

We had a blast on our airboat tour that meandered through the bayou, about 30 minutes outside of New Orleans.
Aside from gorgeous scenery, we saw lots of GATORS!
Uh oh, I think they found out about those "gator bites" we ate the other night...
The tour guides lure them to the boat with – get this – marshmallows! They call them “swamp crack!” Who knew?! We even got to hold an alligator, thanks to our tour guide, Earl! (Of course his name would be Earl, and he would have the most awesome Cajun accent ever.)

Everyone got the chance to hold “Fluffy” the alligator. When he gets too big to keep on the boat (about three feet long), he’ll be released into the wild.

The tour took about two hours. It was fast and loud, but educational, too. We learned a lot about bayou wildlife and it was definitely one of my favorite experiences of the trip. I might even think twice about ordering gator bites next time I see them on the menu…
